Glendale sits between central Phoenix and the northwest valley's retirement communities, and its Medicare population reflects that mix — long-established residents in the older neighbourhoods, newer arrivals in the north, and a substantial Spanish-speaking community throughout.
Well positioned for access
Glendale's location is an advantage. Most Maricopa County plans cover the west valley thoroughly, and residents can reasonably reach hospital systems in central Phoenix, the northwest valley and Peoria. Network breadth is rarely the constraint here.
What still needs checking is your own providers by name. County-level availability tells you which plans you may join; only the provider list tells you whether a plan works.
Dual eligibility
Glendale has a higher share of residents who qualify for both Medicare and AHCCCS than the northwest valley retirement communities do. If that is you, two things matter:
- Arizona applies no asset test to the Medicare Savings Programs — only income is measured. Savings alone do not disqualify you, which is not true in most states.
- Dual Special Needs Plans are available in Maricopa County and typically carry a $0 premium with Part D included. More on AHCCCS and the Savings Programs →

Common questions
I might qualify for AHCCCS as well as Medicare. What changes?
Quite a lot, and usually in your favour. Qualifying for AHCCCS or a Medicare Savings Program can pay your Part B premium and cost-sharing, and it automatically gets you Extra Help with prescription costs. It also opens Dual Special Needs Plans, which typically carry a $0 premium and include Part D.
I have savings. Does that rule me out of help?
Not in Arizona. The AHCCCS eligibility chart lists the resource limit for QMB, SLMB and QI-1 as not applicable, so only income is measured. Most states count savings; Arizona does not, and a lot of people never apply because they assume otherwise.
